Caracol Púrpura - Felipe - Candelaria Loxicha, Sierra Sur, Oaxaca - Washed Typica
Sierra Sur · 1,650m · Typica · Washed · Medium Dark
Candelaria Loxicha sits in the Sierra Sur at the edge of where Oaxaca's mountains begin their descent toward the Pacific. The altitude holds — 1,650 meters — and with it the slow ripening that makes this corner of the state worth paying attention to.
Felipe grows Typica. That's a choice that says something. Typica is low-yielding, disease-susceptible, and difficult to justify on paper. What it offers in return is a cup with genuine lineage — one of the oldest varieties in the Americas, still producing in the hands of growers who never replaced it. In the Sierra Sur, where humidity from the coast pushes into the mountains and the days are warm while the nights drop, Typica finds conditions close to what it was bred for. The result is a variety expressing itself without interference.
Washed process keeps it honest. What's in the cup is what the tree and the land produced: clean, composed, with the quiet complexity that Typica is known for when it's grown at elevation and left to do what it does. The medium dark roast adds weight to the finish without closing down the cup.
